A Guide to Games and Activities for Babies

A baby constantly explores his immediate environment through play. Thus, it is essential for parents and caregivers to engage their little ones in various games and activities that will help him learn new skills.

From birth to about six months, it may seem that all your infant does is sleep and eat. However, there are still some fun games that he will enjoy. Fling a soft, light scarf in the air, and let it fall onto his head. Or you can securely tie fabric or ribbon onto a spoon, and dangle the latter over his face.

At six to eight months, your child will begin exploring his world by holding, touching, chewing, banging, and clanging. Allow him to have an object or two, and see how he discovers them. Choose shiny objects that make loud noises to show your baby the principle of cause and effect. You can also fill a low cabinet with baby-friendly objects that he can reach himself.

When your tot is about nine-month to a year old, he will begin developing his motor skills. Physical activities like bouncing a ball around and chasing after it help promote development.
